Their are many different way that people in todays day in age think of the perfect man. In my mind i think that the perfect human is Cristiano Ronaldo. He is my idol because we both play soccer and he is the best in the world and naturally everyone is going to idolize and want to be like the best soccer player in the world. I think when many people think of the perfect man they think of him. The main reason for this besides soccer is because he is very marketable. He is always in magazines and the face of clothing brands. This in turn has made him a household name across the world. Everyone knows who Cristiano Ronaldo is regardless of where they are from.

I think another main reason why he can be perceived as the perfect man is because of how he carries himself. The ideal perfect man in today’s society has to carry himself in a certain way with dignity and with character. Cristiano has this way about him that many people respect and he is very up front in the way he feels and i think that is a great aspect of being the perfect man.

He grew up with nothing. He grew up in a small town of an island off the coast of Portugal called Madera. He moved away from his family when he was just a little boy because he was signed by a dam called Sporting Lisbon on the mainland of Portugal. His family was poor and as soon as he was signed he began to make money. Since he was making money he began sending money back home to help support his family because they were so poor. When he got to about 18 years old he moved to Manchester, England because he was signed by Manchester United who was actually here to play against his current team, Real Madrid this past weekend.

He is now the richest soccer player in the world and from coming from nothing that is pretty special and now he has everything and he can support his whole family. This is the last and most important characteristic of the “Perfect Man” because in order to be considered a perfect man you need to be able to make it on your own and succeed even through hardships. The Elite

Evan Louro

I chose to blog about the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. The reason I chose to write about this is because it was the most captivating and hit home the most for me. Living in that area that the “Occupy Wall Street” movement took place really made me realize things that were going on in the world that I would otherwise be unaware of. It really made me want to learn about the struggles that some people were going through and are still going through in this generation.

This being said I think that the actually purpose of this movement was to get people ware of what was going on with the 99% and how big the gap was between them and the 1%. It really made me want to gain knowledge about this and I know it wasn’t just me because many young people that didn’t know anything about this before the movement and this caused them to reach out and try to understand what was going on and why so many people were protesting in the street and why there was so much traffic in the area that it was going on because during this no one could drive anywhere because of all the traffic and delays.

I think that these movements breach many peoples value that live in that area of New York. This is the case because there is a lot of diversity. Some of the richest people in the world live in New York and you can just walk down the street and see some of the poorest. My family is sort of in the middle because we aren’t poor but we aren’t rich so we can kind of go both ways.

I think that this movement had good intentions but it has some things that I don’t agree with. I don’t think people should be punished for being rich. They are rich because they put in a lot of work and had many struggle in their life that other people that aren’t as wealthy ever went through. On the other hand many of those wealthy people had opportunities that the other side didn’t so you can really go both ways. Overall I think this movement was a success because it got people involved and aware which I think the goal was in the first place.IMG_0940

Problems with Stand Your Ground laws in the Martin Case

zimmermanEvan Louro

I remember taking a law class in high school, and the Trayvon Martin case was the topic of conversation one day. After the verdict was released to the public and George Zimmerman was declared not guilty, most people wondered how he had gotten away with his crime. From a legal standpoint, the real mistake was charging George Zimmerman with second-degree premeditated murder when in actuality the charge should have been less. People also debated the necessity of stand your ground laws currently in place.

The debate leads to the question: do these stand your ground laws provide a fair defense of Zimmerman in this case? An article by Edward Champion on a forum called “The Reluctant Habits” discusses the faulty goals of stand your ground laws and how it allows people to get away with crime. According to Champion the laws have a racial undertone that have allowed white people like Zimmerman to walk free while punishing some black people for scattered crimes that were not as serious as those in the Zimmerman case. A black woman was sentenced to twenty years in prison for firing a warning shot, which doesn’t really make any sense to me, because although it probably wasn’t the smartest idea to start firing warning shot into the air, she didn’t hurt anyone unlike George Zimmerman. Between Champion’s article and my background in my legal class that I took in high school the issue in this case may be not just racism in general, but racism in the way laws are formed and enforced. Champion mentions that “A CU-Boulder study from last year revealed that 69 undergraduates and 254 police officers were more likely to shoot black suspects over Hispanics and whites.” The trend from the study makes the stand your ground laws racist with in their own language, allowing people’s biases to clear legal notice.

Based on my experience with the topic I think that stand your ground laws need to be reviewed and changed accordingly. Although benefits are an increase in tourism and an overall drop in crime, these incidences cant just continue to be brushed to the side. Trayvon Martin’s death is definitely a symbol of racism that might be alive in today’s world. But more then that, it exposes a problem in the legal system and reflects fears of people in American society.

I think I am millennial. I am apart of this generation and I am proud of it. We need to take steps to make our generation as productive and revolutionary as possible. We have a huge responsibility to make a difference because of all the resources that we have. We are one of the first generations who can make an instant change because of all the advancements in technology that we have and will continue to make. People all over the world are constantly working to make improvements to everyday life and every little bit helps.

The way the writers describe this generation is pretty spot on. Many of them say that this generation has so much potential but it is just being wasted on things that are not important like video games and other things that draw people away from more important and world changing activities. Technology can be such a powerful; tool but at the same time it can work against us as well. It makes it ten times easier for someone to get distracted and not do what they are suppose to do. People have everything at the touch of their finger and it can cause some people to go power hungry. Some people misuse technology so bad that they end up hurting other people emotionally and sometimes even physically.

If I am anything, if we are anything, we are a generation that can change the world. We are a generation that can make a difference in the world. We are a generation that aside from all other things, can change the way of how people view us not only in this country, but every other country in the world because at the end of the day the main goal is to be united with everyone. If this happens imagine the difference that could be made. No more wars or disagreements, just everyone working together to make a difference and make this planet the best it can be and start teaching the future generations how to preserve it and make it better so that we all get better.

World Cup Struggles

A current event that is happening in the world is the world cup. Personally I have been very disappointed because my favorite team, Spain, got knocked out in the group stages. On the bright side the United States are making a real statement and they are making a lot of people in this country start to notice the sport and I think that is a really good thing because we have a lot of talented soccer players in this country that end up playing other sports to go with American culture. I have been playing soccer since I can remember and my dad played semi pro in Spain. My father was born in Spain and so was the rest of my family even on my mothers’ side. I visit Spain every year because most of my family still lives there. I am really upset with the World Cup now because Belgium has just beaten the United States. I myself play on the under 20 USA men’s national team. I have played with many of the guys that went to the World Cup and I understand how much work they put in to get prepared for that huge event. Being able to play in the World Cup is a huge honor and only a select few of players have ever played in it. If you are lucky enough to play in a World Cup it is something you should cherish for the rest of your life. I myself had the incredible chance to take part in the under 17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and it was an amazing experience. I will tell my children and my grandchildren stories about all the places that I have been to and all the amazing things I was lucky enough to experience at such a young age. Hopefully I will get a chance to take part in the World Cup in 2018 or 2022. It will be interesting to see who else moves on in the World Cup because many of the favorites have been knocked out of the competition already. Now that Spain is out I want Argentina to win because my mother is from there.
